About Mike Myers

Mike Myers' style is mainly associated with a sense of deep and quiet romanticism, which pervades most of his work with a seemingly paradoxical blend of open spaces and smoky intimacy.

A native of New Mexico, Mike Myers bought his first trumpet for $15 and started playing at the age of 12, after hearing Al Hirt's recording of I Can't Get Started. "I just couldn't stop listening to that song and decided then and there that I had to learn how to play like that", says Myers. While still in high school he began playing in local clubs around Springfield, Ohio. In 1968, after studying briefly at the Wittenberg University School of Music under the guidance of noted Springfield Symphony conductor Jackson Wiley, Myers moved to Southern California, where he played in various clubs around Orange County and studied with such trumpeters as Norman Major and Harold E. "Pappy" Mitchell.

In the early 1980's Myers was forced to take an extended hiatus from playing, due to a medical issue, but has lately been staging a "comeback". "I'm just taking it slow and steady, one day at a time, and we'll just see what happens", says Myers.

Myers currently resides in Orange County, California, with his beautiful wife, Margie, whom he describes as "my muse, my anchor, the love of my life".
